In August 2017, Plant Science in Umeå will become 50 years. We will celebrate this anniversary with a three-day lasting symposium. You are welcome to join us and listen to talks about the past, the present and the future of Plant Science in Umeå (and the world)!
Plant Science in Umeå begun with the foundation of the Department of Plant Physiology (FysBot) at Umeå University in 1967. In the late 1970’s, a second Plant Science Department started its activities in Umeå, the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology (GenFys) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). These two Departments joined their forces in 1999 and created the Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC), first “virtually”, and in 2001 also physically.
The research at UPSC today is fundamentally different from the science in 1967. Over 200 persons are working at UPSC now, in contrast to the handful of people that started in August 1967. We like to discuss with you how this tremendous development has been possible, where plant science is today and what its importance is for the society and the citizens of Sweden and how the future of plant science might look like.

Welcome to the Swedish Experimental Plant Science Symposium
This meeting is a follow-up on the successful meeting in Uppsala where plant researchers working in Sweden meet and discuss common interests, national policies and strategies for Swedish plant science. This is also the moment for new PI to get welcomed into the Swedish plant community. Join the meeting and network to find synergies between your work and other researchers for joint national proposals or just meet the locals after a week with international interaction at the SPPS meeting.
Note - The meeting is only for PIs active in Swedish universities.
Fee covers dinner. The rest of the costs are sponsored by the three research centers UPSC, Linnaeus and Plant Link.
We will meet in the room Bergsmannen, close to the aula used for the main SPPS meeting.

UPSC is organising a symposium together with a Canadian program called WOW (working on walls) in July 3-4 in Umeå.
WOW is a graduate training program between several different labs working with different aspects of cell wall formation in several different countries, and the host university of the program is the University of British Columbia (UBC).
There will be WOW graduate students and PIS coming to this symposium from UBC, Strasbourg, Japan and UPSC. In addition, we have invited three speakers to this symposium. Some of the international speakers of this symposium will be:
